Long Island Railroad Simulator Installation Begins

November 21, 2000 - McLean, VA  - Installation of a train simulator for the Long Island Railroad's DE-30 passenger locomotive has begun. The simulator, designed and built by the Transport Technology Division of IIT Research Institute, incorporates computer modeling of the control systems of the DE-30 locomotive. The modeling of these systems creates extremely high fidelity in the response of the simulator to variations in track, train configuration and operating conditions.

The DE-30 Cab Simulator

The new simulator replaces one of the original pair of simulators originally built for Long Island Railroad by the IIT Research Institute. The second of the simulator pair will eventually be replaced by a new cab simulator designed to recreate the appearance and performance of the new M-7 train now under construction.
