Alion’s Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories™ (RAL) provides independent, accurate testing of building materials and consumer products.
With a staff of experts and advanced equipment, including six reverberation chambers, Alion can provide accurate, independent testing and analysis for all established standards and guidelines.

Environmental Testing and Development

Providing technical, analytical, data review and quality assurance/quality control support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Program, other EPA programs, Federal and state agencies, and tribal organizations to facilitate identification, assessment, regulation and remediation of environmental hazards which may pose a threat to human health or the environment.

Alion supports several EPA laboratories, providing services such as methods development and evaluation for measuring a variety of pollutants in multiple sample matrices and for the collection and analysis of samples requiring a wide range of scientific and engineering capabilities.
The laboratories include: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Laboratory, X-Ray Fluorometry (XRF) Laboratory, Analytical Chemistry and Biological Laboratory, Aerosol Test Facilities, Human and Ecological Laboratories, and the Wind Tunnel and Visualization Chamber.
Life Sciences Laboratory

Alion’s Life Sciences Laboratory consists of an AAALAC International accredited animal facility, a wet chemistry laboratory and an area housing the HVAC and vacuum/compressed air mechanical systems as well as the electrical control systems. At the facility, Alion scientists provide toxicology research, animal husbandry, inhalation engineering and biochemistry support services.
DoD Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC)
Advances in weapons systems are tied to the success of the military's mission. In the face of evolving threats, weapons systems must be made more accurate, adaptable, reliable, safe and cost effective.
The Weapons Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC) is the DoD's clearinghouse for subject matter expertise, research and analysis on the systems, sub-systems and related technologies that can make the difference for U.S. warfighters. Alion operates WSTIAC, providing insights on the trends, engineering and acquisition of ground, air and undersea weapons systems, from ships and planes to secure communications and guidance systems, lasers and microwaves to GPS technologies.

This laboratory provides electromagnetic interference (EMI)/electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) consulting and testing services to both government and commercial customers. Our engineers and technicians are NARTE certified.
R&B Laboratory (EMI/EMC Test Facility)
Alion's R&B Laboratory is an independent test facility providing sophisticated electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) consulting and testing to both government and industry customers. Drawing on more than three decades of experience, R&B Laboratory is an established, reliable, and credible resource within the commercial EMC and Department of Defense (DoD) Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) communities. The laboratory offers total life-cycle EMI/EMC services including design, development, testing, consulting, training and field support.
R&B Laboratory includes nine shielded rooms, each equipped with multiple power capabilities with automated data acquisition as well as a reverberation chamber and full-threat lightning Marx generator. Our engineers and technicians are NARTE certified. Our facility is accredited under NIST's National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), including ISO 17025 requirements.

Advanced Materials and Coatings Laboratory (AMCL)
Alion's Advanced Materials and Coatings Laboratory (AMCL) specializes in the preparation and application of coatings for spacecraft and satellites. Our engineers pioneered the development of unique materials for the protection of aerospace structures and components from Space Environmental Effects (SEE). Alion has produced materials for the Gemini and Apollo Missions, the International Space Station (ISS), NASA and DoD.

DoD Advanced Materials, Manufacturing and Testing Information Analysis Center (AMMTIAC)
Today's high operational tempo and enhanced technologies put extreme stresses on the materials used to manufacture and repair critical systems, including vehicles, weapons systems, ships and aircraft. Materials, manufacturing and testing greatly influence the ultimate success of any system.
AMMTIAC, the Advanced Materials, Manufacturing and Testing Information Analysis Center, is the DoD's clearinghouse for information and services related to this essential need. Alion operates AMMTIAC, which includes maintaining a unique DoD Materials Library and the AMMTIAC database.
Alion’s subject matter experts provide customers with the data, information and analyses to make informed materials decisions, often resulting in improved performance, extended lifetime and cost savings.

DoD Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Center (MSIAC)
Effective modeling and simulation (M&S) can drastically improve the outcomes of any number of military operations, from training to wargaming to resource management, while limiting the costs and risks, as compared to exercises involving real people and equipment.
To support this need, Alion operates the DoD's Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Center (MSIAC), a clearinghouse for information and subject matter expertise in M&S techniques and technologies.
Within MSIAC, Alion also operates M&S University®, a training center that teaches military leaders how to effectively use M&S to enhance results.

Modeling and Simulation Technology Demonstration Lab
Alion's Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Demonstration Lab supports multiple projects for both presentation and development purposes. Technologies on display include:
Damage Control Trainer (DCT) – Developed to address training challenges at the Navy's Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Illinois. Developed under the auspices of the Office of Naval Research, DCT is a "serious game" using open source video gaming technology to prepare Navy Recruits for shipboard emergencies.
Mission Rehearsal Tactical Team Trainer (MRT3) – Developed in partnership with NAVAIR, the MRT3 provides a deployable, high fidelity team trainer for the H-60 F/S communities to augment training in high fidelity simulators and to sustain Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) team skills while deployed.
Virtual Maintenance Performance Aid (VMPA) – Another serious game-based trainer, VMPA was developed in partnership with the Office of Naval Research and NAVAIR to provide a high fidelity virtual environment to train Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Readiness Control Officers (RCO).
Deployable Virtual Training Environment (DVTE) – developed for PMTRASYS, DVTE is a U.S. Marine Corps Program of Record that provides a deployable training aid for small units and teams to practice Close Air Support, Naval Surface Fires Support, artillery support and other critical collaborative missions. It has the capability to combine real-world Command and Control systems with the synthetic world to provide high quality, relevant training.
Navy Warfare Development Command Simulation Facility
The Naval Warfare Development Command (NWDC) strives to be the Navy’s premier experts and standard bearers for the holistic development and integration of capability at the operational level, shaping current and future force employment through various core competencies that include Modeling and Simulation (M&S).
To help facilitate this M&S core competency, NWDC has a robust state-of-the-art M&S facility, the Navy Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NCAMS). NCAMS is a 10,000 square foot facility that allows NWDC to support the Navy experimentation process along with other key capabilities that contribute significantly to the development of warfighting capabilities. Together, NWDC and NCAMS enable experimentation in support of the Chief of Naval Operation’s program for Concept Generation and Concept Development and the Navy Fleet Sea Trial experimentation program.
Alion’s contractor team helped facilitate the relocation of NWDC from Rhode Island to Norfolk in 2010-2011, along with successful integration of NCAMS. Alion currently runs the lab in support of the robust Fleet Synthetic Training and provides capabilities to execute large scale synthetic exercises, which is possible because of the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) architecture.
NSSI Space Power Laboratory
The National Security Space Institute (NSSI) Space Power Laboratory is a state-of-the-art modeling and simulation facility that provides trainees with hands-on, interactive training of space scenarios. The lab offers mission planning applications and situational awareness tools that help trainees provide support to the warfighter.
Arizona Laboratories for Security and Defense Research (AZLabs)
The Arizona Laboratories for Security and Defense Research (AZLabs), operated by Alion, is a full-service research facility well suited for hosting sensitive research programs. Encompassing 92,000 sq ft, AZLabs retains all security protocols of the former U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Mesa, AZ. AZLabs can support a broad range of sensitive projects, including experiments, prototype evaluations, distributed test and training with access to a highly skilled DoD-focused workforce. Additionally, AZLabs is in close proximity to existing restricted airspace and Military Operation Areas, as well as three 10,000-plus foot runways, taxiways and parking apron.
