Alion Awarded DARPA Experimentation and Evaluation Contract

Technology solutions firm to support Real-time Adversarial Intelligence and Decision-making

November 22, 2004 - McLean, VA - Alion Science and Technology today announced it was awarded a three year, $3.5 million Experimentation and Evaluation (E&E) contract to support the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Real-time Adversarial Intelligence and Decision-making (RAID) project.

The award is for developing small processor based “reasoning modules” that assist the joint urban warfare combat team in analyzing a tactical situation in near real-time, and based upon previous enemy behavior and intentions, provide a likelihood of expected enemy intentions and actions.

Alion’s team will provide advanced experimentation and evaluation of the utility of the “reasoning modules” in a simulated joint urban operation Wargame experiment. The Alion team will gauge the degree of value the RAID modules add to the combat force through scientifically based experiments and comprehensive rigorous evaluation analyses. The E&E effort will provide independent design, execution and evaluation of RAID experiments. The experiment and evaluations occur twice a year during the three years of the award.

“This project will help DARPA in predicting enemy actions, strengths and weaknesses,” said Rob Goff, Senior Vice President and Manager of Alion’s Defense Operations Integration Sector. “This is a key contract win that puts Alion in the DARPA arena for advanced C2 work, leveraging upon our Joint Service modeling, simulation and analysis skills.”

Alion’s team includes Applied Research Associates, BMH, Simulex, and VisiTech.
